Follow these steps carefully
Park the 2010-2018 BMW 5 Series and set the parking brake. Empty the glovebox (or open the cabin-filter access panel under the dash / cowl if your BMW 5 Series uses that layout). Informational DIY — EZ Car Fix is not a shop.
On the 2010-2018 BMW 5 Series, squeeze the glovebox side walls or release the dampener/stops so the box drops fully, then unclip the cabin air filter cover. Keep fasteners and clips together so none are lost under the dash.
Slide the old cabin air filter out of the BMW 5 Series housing. Note the airflow arrow direction first. Bag the dirty filter, then wipe or vacuum leaves and dust from the slot so debris does not enter the HVAC case.
Insert the new cabin air filter into the 2010-2018 BMW 5 Series housing with the airflow arrow matching the old filter (usually pointing down or toward the blower). Seat it fully — do not bend the frame or leave gaps at the edges.
Refit the filter cover until it clicks, then reconnect the BMW 5 Series glovebox dampener/stops and close the glovebox. Start the 2010-2018 BMW 5 Series, set the fan to fresh air (not max recirculate), and confirm strong airflow with no rattle from an unseated filter door.
Test your repair before closing everything up. If something doesn't work right, double-check your steps.
