Locate the air filter housing

Open the hood and locate the rectangular air filter housing, usually near the front of the engine bay connected to the intake tube.

Open the housing

Release the metal clips, latches, or screws securing the housing lid. Some models use hose clamps on the intake tube — loosen only what is needed to open the lid.

Remove the old filter

Lift out the old engine air filter. Note the rubber seal orientation so the new filter seats the same way.

Clean the housing

Wipe leaves, dirt, and debris from inside the box with a clean rag. Avoid pushing debris down the intake tract toward the throttle body.

Install the new filter

Place the new filter into the housing, matching the old orientation. Ensure the seal sits evenly all around with no gaps or pinched edges.

Close and secure

Refit the lid, align the tabs, and resecure clips/screws/clamps. Confirm the intake tube is seated. Start the engine and listen for induction whistling that could indicate a poor seal.
