Follow these steps carefully
Park the Soul on level ground, set the parking brake, and let the 2.0L engine cool completely. A cold engine protects both your hands and the aluminum head threads. Disconnect the negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench and tuck it aside. The step is done when the cable cannot touch the battery post.
Pull the plastic engine cover straight up off its rubber grommets to expose the four ignition coils on the valve cover. Set the cover aside. Confirm all four coil packs are visible before continuing.
Press the release tab on each of the four coil electrical connectors and pull them straight off the coils. Keep the connectors routed neatly so each returns to its own coil. You are finished when all four connectors hang free.
Remove the 10mm bolt from each ignition coil and pull the coils straight up out of the spark plug tubes. Twist gently if a boot sticks to a plug. Lay the coils out in order. The step is complete when all four plug tubes are open.
Insert a 5/8-inch spark plug socket with an extension into each tube, break each plug loose with a ratchet, and unthread by hand. Inspect the old plugs for excessive electrode wear. All four plugs are out when every tube shows an empty threaded hole.
Verify the gap on each new plug with a gap gauge against the specification shown in the video. Thread each plug in by hand until it seats, preventing cross-threading. Snug each plug with the socket and ratchet using moderate force. The step is done when all four plugs are seated firmly.
Push each ignition coil down onto its plug until it seats fully, reinstall the four 10mm coil bolts, and reconnect each electrical connector until it clicks. Confirm no coil sits crooked on its tube. The ignition system is restored when all four coils are bolted and connected.
Press the engine cover back onto its grommets and reconnect the negative battery cable, tightening the 10mm nut. Start the engine and confirm a smooth idle with no check-engine light. The job is complete when the Soul idles smoothly and accelerates without hesitation.
