Follow these steps carefully
Warm the engine for 5 minutes, park on level ground, and shut it off. On the 997.1 911 the oil filter is a cartridge in a plastic housing underneath the engine. Raise the rear onto jack stands.
Remove the rear underbody panel to access the oil pan and filter housing. Place a large drain pan underneath. The 997.1 holds 8.5 quarts - use a pan with sufficient capacity.
Remove the 19mm drain plug and let the oil drain for at least 10 minutes. While it drains, locate the black plastic filter housing nearby. Loosen its cap to break the seal.
Remove the filter housing cap and extract the old cartridge. Replace the O-ring in the cap groove with the new one, lubricated with fresh oil. Press the new cartridge into the cap.
Reinstall the filter cap to 25 Nm. Do not over-tighten the plastic housing. Install the drain plug with a new washer at 30 Nm. Refit the underbody panel.
Lower the car to level ground. Pour 8.5 quarts of Porsche A40-approved 0W-40 through the filler. Wait 2 minutes for it to settle. The 997.1 has no dipstick - you will check via the instrument cluster.
Start the engine and idle for 60 seconds. Check underneath for leaks. To verify the oil level: navigate to the oil level display in the instrument cluster. The engine must be warm and on level ground. Top up if needed.
Test your repair before closing everything up. If something doesn't work right, double-check your steps.
