Follow these steps carefully
Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area — no sparks or open flame. Relieve fuel-rail pressure on the Audi Q7 per the service manual (often by pulling the fuel-pump fuse/relay and cranking briefly). Disconnect the negative (−) battery cable. Have a Class B extinguisher nearby.
Most vehicles use an in-tank pump reached through an access panel under the rear seat or trunk carpet; others require dropping the tank. Clear the access area, support the tank if lowering it, and keep a drain pan ready for spilled fuel.
Unplug the pump/sending-unit connector. Release the quick-connect fuel lines with the proper disconnect tools — expect some spillage. Cap open lines to keep debris out.
Clean dirt away from the lock ring first so it cannot fall into the tank. Use a brass punch or lock-ring tool to rotate the ring free. Lift the pump module straight up, angling carefully past the float arm. Note clock orientation.
Compare the new module/pump assembly. Transfer the fuel-level sender, strainer/sock, spacers, or lock ring if required. Install a new tank seal/O-ring lightly lubricated with clean fuel or the specified grease — never reuse a flattened seal.
Lower the module in the correct orientation, seat the seal evenly, and tighten the lock ring fully. Reconnect fuel lines until they click and plug in the electrical connector. Refit the access cover or raise/secure the tank. Reconnect the battery, prime the system, inspect for leaks, then start and confirm stable running.
Test your repair before closing everything up. If something doesn't work right, double-check your steps.
