Follow these steps carefully
Disconnect the negative battery cable. On the Volvo XC90, the blower motor is usually under the passenger dash, behind a kick panel, or in the engine-bay HVAC box — remove the trim/glove-box pieces needed for clear access. Wear gloves; sharp sheet-metal edges are common.
Unplug the blower motor connector. If a blower resistor or control module is attached inline, note its orientation and whether it shares screws with the motor cover. Inspect for heat damage or water intrusion.
Remove the retaining screws and lower the blower motor out of the housing. Catch any debris or leaves that fall from the scroll. Do not bend the fan cage.
Match connector style, cage diameter, and mounting flange to the old motor. Vacuum leaves and dust from the HVAC housing opening so the new cage does not hit debris. Transfer any foam seals if not included on the new unit.
Seat the new blower so the cage clears the housing, install screws evenly, and reconnect the electrical connector. Reinstall trim panels. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
Key-on and run the Volvo XC90 blower through all speeds in vent mode. Confirm strong airflow with no scraping, squeal, or intermittent cut-out. Recheck dash panels for rattles after a short drive.
