Follow these steps carefully
Park the 2016-2024 Volvo XC90 and let the engine cool. Disconnect the negative battery cable if recommended. Loosen the clamps and remove the intake tube from the throttle body. Unplug the throttle-position/electronic-throttle connector and any vacuum hoses — label them. Wear gloves and eye protection.
Look for sticky carbon on the bore and the backside of the throttle plate on the 2016-2024 Volvo XC90. Do not force an electronic throttle open by hand beyond its stop — use a scan-tool throttle-mode if specified, or clean only what is reachable with the plate at rest.
Spray throttle-body cleaner on a lint-free cloth or soft brush and wipe carbon from the bore and plate. Avoid soaking an electronic motor or pouring cleaner into the 2016-2024 Volvo XC90 intake tract. Never use abrasive sandpaper on the bore.
