Follow these steps carefully

Locate the OBD2 port

Find the OBD2 diagnostic port under the dashboard on the driver side. It is a 16-pin trapezoidal connector.

Plug in the scanner

With the key off, plug the OBD2 scanner into the port. Turn the key to ON (or start the engine) and let the scanner read.

Read and record the codes

Note every code (e.g., P0300, P0420) and the freeze-frame data (RPM, load, temp). Write them down before clearing anything.

Research the codes

Look up each code for your specific make and model. Common codes include P0300 (misfire), P0420 (catalyst), and EVAP codes (gas cap, purge valve).

Plan the fix

Start with the basics: gas cap click-tight, visual for unplugged sensors, oil-soaked plugs. If one cylinder misfires, swap that coil with a neighbor and see if the code follows.

Test your repair before closing everything up. If something doesn't work right, double-check your steps.
