Follow these steps carefully
With the engine off, open the Express's hood. The engine air filter is inside the large airbox on the driver's side of the engine bay. The box is easy to spot — it has a thick intake tube running to the throttle body.
Release the metal spring clips around the airbox lid — there are typically four to six. Lift the lid up and set it aside, keeping the intake tube attached if possible. If a sensor connector blocks the lid, unplug it carefully.
Lift the old panel filter out and hold it to the light. Work vans ingest a lot of dust, so the filter is often packed. Wipe the inside of the airbox with a damp rag. Drop the new filter in, ensuring its rubber seal sits flat in the groove.
Replace the lid and snap every clip shut. Reconnect any sensor plug you removed. Start the engine and confirm it idles normally with no check-engine light. A whistling sound means a clip was missed.
Follow the intake tube from the airbox to the throttle body, squeezing it to check for cracks. Work vans vibrate heavily, and a split tube causes unmetered air leaks that trigger check-engine lights. Replace the tube if the rubber is brittle.
Some Express vans have a filter restriction gauge on the airbox — a small dial that shows red when the filter is clogged. If yours has one, press its reset button after installing the new filter. This gauge helps you time the next change based on actual restriction, not just mileage.
