Step-by-Step Instructions

Remove the caliper
Unbolt the caliper from the knuckle or slides. Hang it with wire — do not let it dangle on the hose.

Compress the piston
Push the piston back with a C-clamp or pad tool. On electronic-park models, you may need to power-retract or the piston will fight you.

Replace hardware
Replace slides, abutments, and clips if they are rusty. Clean the caliper bracket with brake cleaner and a wire brush.

Install new pads
Install the new pads into the clips, reinstall the caliper, and torque the caliper bolts to spec.

Reinstall and pump
Put the wheel back on, torque lugs to spec, lower the vehicle, and pump the brake pedal to the floor before driving. First stops will feel long until the piston closes.
